The Agric Ministry has said the floods being experienced across the country should not affect food supplies. A number of towns and farmlands have been submerged in floods all over the country, especially the Northern region and Afram Plains, both key food growing regions. It is feared some other areas downstream from Akosombo are also going to be severely hit by spillage of the dam with implications for food security. The Agric Ministry however told Joy Business its own investigations indicate that the situation is under control. The Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Agric Ministry, Mr Ram Ebo Bhavnani said the data available to the ministry does not support the suggestion that the floods could adversely affect food supplies. He said out of the 43 districts affected by the floods, 14,600 hectares of crops were cultivate with only seven per cent being affected by the floods.
