Management of the Abetifi Presbyterian College in the Eastern Region has indefinitely suspended General Secretary of the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC).
The school is suspending Yeboah Bright for insubordination and for his involvement in a demonstration last month.
Students of the college took to the streets to register their dissatisfaction with certain actions of the college’s principal.
They accused Rev. D.K Bosea-Gyinantwi of financial misappropriation and refusing to release feeding grants they had paid.
They explained that they were forced by the college's administration to pay feeding fee because the school lacked funds to feed them.
However just a month after the demonstration, the General Secretary of the SRC who is said to be the architect of the demonstration has been indefinately suspended.
In a letter copied to Joy News’ Kofi Siaw, the Adoc Committee of the College after investigation has decided to indefinitely suspend the General Secretary.
The statement said he has been suspended on grounds of “inciting students of the college to rioting on June 1, 2016; deliberately distorting facts to the student body in so far as the discourse between Management and the SRC Executives was concerned.
“Inviting and speaking to the media without prior permission from management and smearing the character and reputation of the principal, Rev. D.K Bosea-Gyinantwi both in print and electronic media.”
The statement added that the General Secretary will be informed of any subsequent development regarding the issue.
The SRC is not in favour of the suspension. They have called on the School Council, the Presbyterian Church and the Education Ministry to look into the issue.
