The Board Chairman of the Internal Audit Agency, Nii Adumasa-Abaddoo, has challenged public sector managers to implement systems and procedures that would provide better opportunities for the achievement of organisational and national objectives.The Board Chairman was speaking at the 45th Meeting of the Internal Audit Board yesterday in Accra, to announce the repositioning of the agency to sensitise public institutions on the role of internal auditing in fostering good corporate governance.According to him, the ultimate goal of the agency was to ensure accountability and good performance in the public sector of Ghana, adding that the re-positioning of the agency was in line with international practices.He added that it would also help to foster good corporate governance ensure effective risk management, and good corporate government practices that will ultimately enhance the achievement of organisation and national objectives.He added that the agency would, as part of its re-branding strategy, make strenuous efforts to increase public access to information on internal revenue activities.In this regard, he noted that the agency had been designing and implementing programmes to improve the human resource capacity of the IAUs for professional internal audit practice.The Chairman, however, emphasised that as part of its rebranding strategies, it would bring internal audit functions to the forefront of the national developmental agenda, through the building of strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders.This, he said, would also increase public access to information, saying, "Indeed, this will be demonstrated by our proposed radio and television programmes that will effectively market our unique product, Value-Adding Internal Service."He indicated that the board had noted the problems on the ground, such as corruption, which is overwhelming the public institutions, and for that reason, training programmes had been instituted to upgrade the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the staffs.The Chairman gave the assurance that the agency would follow the rules strictly, to ensure that organisations falls in line with the approved procedures.Source: Ghanaian Times/Ghana
