The Ghana Employers Association wants laws restricting the recruitment of foreigners in the country relaxed, especially in the oil and gas sector. According to the GEA, that move will be the only way to attract the international expertise needed for the country’s emerging oil and gas sector. Speaking to Joy Business on the sidelines of a breakfast meeting organized for employers, Vice President of the Association, Oko Nikoi Dzani said there is a need for the entire immigration policy to be reviewed so that it will benefit employers, investors as well as the overall development of the country’s human resource. Director-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Elizabeth Adjei called on the government to develop policies that will respond to global and international demand for labour. She told Joy Business it was practically impossible for any country to develop with foreigners. Mrs Adjei said there was the urgent need for a deliberate training programme to build the capacity of Ghanaians. Source: Joy Business/Ghana
