The Editor of the Africawatch magazine has brushed aside threats by the Speaker of Parliament to drag him before the Privileges Committee.Steve Malorey says he will not appear before the committee even if he receives a letter of invitation.The September edition of the Africawatch magazine published a survey it claimed to have been conducted in Ghana in which it rated the performance of Ghana’s ministers of state and Members of Parliament.The ministers and MPs were graded with some receiving as low a grade as F and others being graded as excellent with an A.The publication provoked a storm of controversy with MPs cursing the publication.After a heated debate on the floor of Parliament the MPs concluded the publication was an affront to sovereignty of Parliament.It was deemed to have cast Parliament in a bad light with the Speaker Justice Joyce Bamford Addo referring the case to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for disciplinary action to be taken.But in a four-paged response addressed to the Speaker, the Editor of the Paper said the Parliament erred in its resolution.He said he has done no wrong to be hauled before the Privileges Committee of Parliament.Steve Malorey said he is surprised at the intolerance shown by Parliament saying the decision by Parliament to drag him before the disciplinary committee of Parliament was rather an affront to the freedom and independence of the media.He justified the methodology the magazine used in carrying out the survey and noted the mixed reaction the publication provoked.He is yet to receive a formal letter of invitation from the House but said he will not appear before any committee even if he receives it.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
