Hundreds of well wishers, admirers, and a section of the clergy thronged the Calvary Methodist Church in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra to rejoice and bid farewell to a faithful servant and immediate past General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana.
Rev. Kofi Owusu, 60, was retiring after 13 years (1997-2010) of hard work, selflessness and dedication to duty.
His commitment and steadfastness over the years could not have gone unnoticed and on his crowning moments, the gifts, both cash and other valuables kept pouring in from loved ones- Ms Joyce Aryee Vice President Bible Society of Ghana, Council members of the society and a cross section of the clergy.
If the gifts were material things, Bernice Offei’s sweet rendition of “I say thank you” with her angelic voice will make up for the spiritual enrichment of the humble servant.
All this while, Mr. Owusu ably hooked by his wife, Gladys Owusu looked on in admiration with infectious smiles hovering on his broad cheeked-face.
It was a perfect moment to be grateful to God.
“I am here to give praises and thanksgiving to God for his faithfulness all this years, particularly this past thirteen years when I had the privilege and honour of serving as General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana,” Rev Kofi Owusu said in his acceptance speech.
Mr Owusu was particularly grateful for the support he had recieved in the administration of a fund- “Agents of blessings” which was disbursed to support the education and health of needy but brilliant children.
Through the fund two students are currently studying Biochemical Engineering at All Nations University with two others in the second.
Mr Owusu was hopeful his successor Erasmus Odonkor will achieve greater success than he has.
