The Principal Accountant of the Jomoro District Treasury at Half Assini, Mr Albert Hayford and another unnamed staff of the Department have been arrested for the loss of 2,100 Ghana Cedis belonging to the government.
The name of the other staff is being withheld for security seasons.
The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Ferguson Dzineku confirmed the arrest in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Wednesday.
He said on November 15, Mr Hayford reported for duty and found his office door and drawer had been forced open and 2,100 Ghana cedis out of 15,000 Ghana Cedis in the drawer stolen.
He reported the theft to the authorities of the Jomoro District Assembly who also reported the theft to the police and the suspects were arrested.
Mr Dzineku said the two suspected officers had been placed in police custody pending further investigations.
Investigation done by the Ghana News Agency has revealed that the Treasury office does not have day watchman in spite of its location at the outskirts of town.Source: GNA
