The 2008 Presidential candidate of the CPP, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, is urging the state to reconsider the petition by chiefs in the Western Region for ten percent of the oil revenue.
They want the money to be committed into a fund that will be dedicated to the development of the region.
Parliament’s joint committee on Finance and Energy after studying the petition however said the request cannot be met.
But Dr. Ndoum says the petition has been misunderstood.
He said the quantum of money that should be channeled to the development of the region should be more than the 10 per cent requested by the chiefs.
“The best response from government is to say, ‘here is your plan, here is when it begins with implementation, here is when it ends, this is what you can expect, this is what you can get,’” he said.
Dr Nduom believes that with such a strategy the chiefs will feel that their concerns are being addressed.
