The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice has cleared resigned Sports Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed of fraud and abuse of office allegations leveled against him.The commission says the complainant adduced no credible evidence to support claims of abuse of office by the former minister.The Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) dragged Muntaka Mohammed to CHRAJ following allegations he (minister) illegally acquired a visa for a lady friend and engaged in corrupt acts.The Forum was neither convinced with a National Security Investigations which earlier cleared Muntaka Mohammed, nor were they impressed with the Minister's resignation.They enlisted CHRAJ to investigate the allegation and bring closure to the matter.A copy of the report intercepted by Joy News's Sammy Darko says the pressure group could not substantiate claims that Edith Zinayela (the lady Muntaka was thought to have acquired a visa for) was the girlfriend of the ex-minister.If it had, they would have established a prima facie case that the minister had an ulterior motive for selecting Zinayela to be on an official delegation and therefore abused his position in the process.CHRAJ among other things ruled that "the respondent's (Muntaka) nomination of Ms Edith Zinayela and her inclusion on the trip became necessary only after management of the ministry had agreed and advised that there would be the need for a secretary for the German trip and that it would be more appropriate to travel with a secretary other than his personal secretary to avoid his office being closed down."In the light of the foregoing the Commission concludes that the respondent did not abuse his office in the process of acquiring a visa for Ms Edith Zinayela as a member of the ministry's delegation to Germany," the report read.The Commission cleared the former minister of only one out of the about 15 allegations levelled against him. The rest could not be looked into because the principal witnesses were not available to testify on behalf of the complainants.After the release of the report, Alhaji Muntaka welcome the report.
