The Electricity Company of Ghana is appealing to consumers in Kumasi to exercise patience as the company takes steps to address frequent and unannounced power outages.
Public Relations Manager, Erasmus Kyere-Baidoo, has told Nhyira News that unforeseen developments such as lorry accidents and sudden break-down of the company’s equipment are the main cause.
Residents of Abrepo, Bohyen and Bekwai among others in the Ashanti Region have had to contend with hours of blackout before they are restored.
Mr. Kyere-Baidoo says faulty equipment at Stations A and B, both bulk supply points to Kumasi and Bekwai area caused Monday’s interruption.
While apologizing to residents, Mr. Baidoo appeals to the public to draw ECG’s attention to power cuts for immediate attention.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kyere -Baidoo has commended the police for their assistance to ECG to check cable theft.
"Recently, they caused the arrest of seven people who had stolen our 15 spans of copper-aluminum conductors and that was good news to us" he said.
He also appealed to the general public to volunteer information leading to the arrest of unscrupulous persons who have been stealing ECG cables and conductors.
‘We want people to be vigilant and then help us to apprehend these people who have been stealing our conductors so that the lines can be stable’ Mr. Kyere-Baidoo told Nhyira FM.
He added ‘if they cut the wires, obviously they will disrupt supply and that will not be good for us and that is not good too for our customers’.
