Slow human and economic activities at Gonokrom Border Post in Dormaa Municipality, have led to reduction in revenue collection for the past one week following the political tension in neighbouring Ivory Coast.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, officials of Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Revenue Authority confirmed that the usual human traffic and economic activity at Gonokrom had been absent.
Mr Emmanuel Adjei, Collector in-charge at the border post, said the post-election impasse in Ivory Coast had given way to a rather quiet border with little movement of people, which had affected revenue collection considerably.
Mr H.M. Sangmortey, Immigration Sector Commander, disclosed that only two Ivorians since the impasse had officially used the border post on their way to Kumasi.
The two officials, however, did not give any figures but gave the assurance that officers manning the border post were on a 24-hour alert to thoroughly screen Ivorians wishing to cross the border into Ghana.
