Authorities of the Ghana Baptist University College in Kumasi have confirmed four students of the institution perished in last Saturday’s motor accident.
The school bus with registration AS 903 – 10 ran into a faulty stationary trailer at Yawkwei near Konongo in the Asante Akyim North District of Ashanti.
Addressing a press briefing in Kumasi, Mr. Ayim Nayko Amanfo, acting Registrar of the university college, said three died at the accident scene and one died later at the Konongo Government Hospital.
He named the deceased as Felix Owusu Ansah (Christ Baptist Church, Kumasi), George Boafo Nyamson (Miracle Baptist Church, Western Region), Andrews Dorwunah (Sunyani) and Francis Owusu Adjei (First Baptist Church, Tema).
The student pastors were pursuing Bachelor of Theology Degree programmes at the University’s School of Theology and Ministry.
Others students who sustained serious injuries are responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Thirty-two persons were on board the bus and they were traveling from Kumasi to attend a fellow student’s wedding ceremony in Tema.
According to the acting Registrar, “after the Police have issued official report, the University College will institute a committee to look into it and [make] the necessary recommendations that may prevent future occurrence of such unfortunate situations”.
He extended the University’s condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured speedy recovery.
