Proposals submitted by Ghanaians in the Ashanti and Volta regions for a review of the constitution indicate they are most concerned about issues bordering on ethnicity.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Constitution Review Commission the theme has been most dominant in the submissions.
The over 60 thousand proposals have since been reduced to twenty-five thematic areas the CRC says stands out.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, the Executive Secretary of the Commission Dr Raymond Atuguba said the exercise has been extremely helpful.
In the three northern regions, he said the common theme running through many of the proposals were issues related rural development and national development planning precisely “because – I think – of [the high] poverty levels and the impression or the feeling or the hope that the state, through proper national development planning can help assuage the situation.”
“Issues related to ethnicity have come up very strongly in both the Volta Region and the Ashanti Region. Again not very surprising because the two major political parties draw most of their support from these two regions,” he added.
Dr Atuguba explained that the data being collated by the Constitution Review Commission could used by political and social scientists for their research.
