The Ghana Police Service has projected to recruit 16,000 policemen between now and 2014 to strengthen the staff position of the service and enhance its operations.The exercise will be transparent, based on qualification and the ability of applicants.This forms part of the strategic plan launched by the Vice-President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, in May last year to strengthen the service.The Director-General, Human Resource Development of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Dr P.A. Wiredu, made this known yesterday when he briefed the press on the current recruitment exercise in Cape Coast.He said a temporary ban was placed on recruitment due to the accommodation challenges facing the service.He said through government intervention, housing projects which were abandoned had been reactivated and that hopefully by the time the first batch of recruits passed out, most of the projects would be completed.The Commanding Officer of Training at the National Police Training Schools, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr James Azumah Abass Abaah, said the exercise, which started in Accra last week, would be held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region next week.He said many of those who qualified would be shortlisted and trimmed down through written examinations in dictation and comprehension and a due diligence to select the best among those shortlisted.He advised applicants who had not received their invitation letters to meet the selection team at the next selection centre to go through the selection process.Mr Abaah advised prospective applicants not to pay money to any one under the pretext of influencing the selection team.Source: Daily Graphic
