Some victims of road accidents who have come together to form an association are advocating a review of the way road safety campaigns are conducted. The National Road Safety Commission is alarmed at the spate of accidents despite an intensification of education on road safety. In the latest incident, at least fifteen people were killed when two Yutong buses collided on the Akumadan road in the Ashanti Region. President of the Association Nicholas Nimo said officials should include them in their campaigns because their testimonies will work magic. He is advocating the stationing of victims at accident-prone bus terminals who will talk to drivers before departure. He believes there will be a change of heart in drivers when that is done. The Ghana Private Road Transport union is contemplating measures to deal with road accidents. The Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Alhaji Issah Tetteh he said while many Ghanaians were concerned about the rampant accidents, some drivers remained “recalcitrant. Sometimes they forget that they are carrying their own lives in the car.” He was unhappy that although their untiring efforts before the Christmas celebrations had yielded dividends as few accidents were recorded, the gains had been undone by Tuesday’s accident involving the two Yutong buses.
