Frank Nkansah, a 45-year-old teacher at Esiama in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, is in the custody of the regional branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service for allegedly raping a 14-year-old Junior High School student in the area. The unit has therefore launched a full-scale investigation into the case and would soon put the suspect before court. The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, who disclosed these to Daily Guide, said on Monday, January 10, 2011 at about 1lam, the suspect, who was staying in the same vicinity with the victim and her parents, called the 14-year-old girl and asked her to buy a tin of Milo from a nearby shop for him. According to the police PRO, when the young girl returned with the Milo, the 45-year-old teacher told her there was one thing left and that she should follow him to his room. When the girl followed the teacher to his room, Nkansah, also known as 'Agent 30', allegedly defiled the girl and warned her not to tell anyone. Chief Inspector Adiku said a next door neighbour of Nkansah, who saw the young girl entering the teacher's room, went and informed the mother of the victim. The mother subsequently informed the girl's father who was away at the time. When the father returned at about 4pm and inquired about what her daughter went to do in the teachcr's room, the 14-year-old girl confessed that she was raped by the teacher after she had gone to buy a tin of Milo for him. The father quickly reported the case to the police and Nkansah was arrested. Chief Inspector Adiku said the suspect was in the custody of DOVVSU while investigations into the case were ongoing.
