President John Mills has ordered the military high command to take steps to immediately halt the spread and havoc caused by army worms in Keta.A military helicopter this morning surveyed the worm infested areas of the Municipality to assess the magnitude of the threat.Joy News first broke the news about the threat of this invasion on the lives of over 10,000 residents last week after which NADMO promised to begin wiping out the worms over the weekend. But Joy FM’s Agbeko Ben Coffie who visited some of the affected communities says the spraying exercise has so far been ineffective. The residents, he said have resorted to drinking of alcohol and smearing the alcohol on their bodies to prevent the worms from having a field day.The residents claim the communities were attacked five years ago by the worms which culminated in the death of seven people. They have resolved to pull through this new invasion without any casualty.Meanwhile the Municipal Director of Agric, Togbui Azadagli III is calling for controlled spraying so water bodies are not contaminated and or aquatic life destroyed.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
