John Acquah, alias Papa Kofi Akyen was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Takoradi Circuit Court for possessing Indian hemp.
He pleaded not guilty.
Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson told the court presided over by Mr Kwasi Boakye, that the convict, a labourer at Abuesi a suburb in the Shama District was arrested upon a tip-off.
A search was conducted in his room, which revealed 212 wrappers suspected to be Indian hemp, four boxes of matches, GH¢ 250 and a Nokia phone, leading to his arrest.
Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said the convict was transferred to the Aboadze Police Station and handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
The substance, which was examined by the Police Crime Laboratory in Accra, proved to be Indian hemp. The wrappers weighed 284.0g.Source: GNA
