President Mills will on Thursday cut the sod for the start of construction of 30,000 housing units for the security services.
Government says the 1.5 billion dollar project, will make the poor living conditions of security personnel, such as leaking roofs and collapsing walls a thing of the past.
Today’s groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Police Training Depot at Tesano, in Accra.
Ahead of the event, Joy News’ Araba Koomson paid a visit to the depot which also houses dilapidated residential accommodation for police recruits.
She was taken on a tour by the Commanding Officer, J. A. Abaas-Abaah, and she reports of painted walls and dusted floors in readiness for sod-cutting ceremony by the president.
Mr Abaas-Abaah said he, like other police officers were excited about the project because when completed, the housing units will alleviate their acute housing problems.
Some police personnel who will benefit from the new housing units, had huge expectations.
They said they expect their living conditions to improve with the project.
The 30,000 STX housing units will be spread across the country and the will be built over a period of five years.
