Former President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra Saturday for conference engagements in UK and India that will keep him away for about two weeks. He will first stop in London, UK where he has been invited as a Special Guest at the launch of the Africa Justice Foundation to be attended by prominent lawyers and academics from around the world. Mrs. Cherie Blair, wife of former UK Prime Minister, who is founder and trustee of the Foundation, will be the Principal Speaker. The Africa Justice Foundation works with the international business community to support the development of robust justice systems, especially in Africa, through sustainable partnerships between lawyers, the judiciary, academics, civil society and commercial organizations. It helps to strengthen legal systems to benefit commerce, investment and human development across Africa. According to a statement issued in Accra by Mr Kufuor's Spokesperson, the former president will, from London proceed to New Delhi, India, to attend the Vision 2020 global conference of the International Food Policy Research (IFPRI) on “Leveraging Agriculture for Improving Nutrition and Health.” Former President Kufuor will co-chair the opening session with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and be the Guest of Honour at a dinner to be held in his honour on the opening day of the conference. The Conference is to set in motion actions to help realize IFPRI’s 2020 Vision which aims at a world where every person has access to sufficient food to sustain a healthy and productive life, where malnutrition is absent, and where food originates from efficient, effective, and low-cost food systems that are compatible with sustainable use of natural resources. IFPRI hopes to do this by developing and promoting a shared vision and consensus for action for meeting food needs while reducing poverty and protecting the environment. It also plans to generate information and encourage debate to influence action by national governments, nongovernmental organizations, the private sector, international development institutions, and other elements of civil society.
