Bukom Banku’s fourth knockout victory over Jorge Olivera Rodrigues at the weekend has inspired, Vice President John Dramani Mahama to promise more government support for boxing.
The Vice President and some dignitaries were among the close to 2000 people who turned up to watch Bukom Banku annex the WBO Africa light heavyweight title after stopping his Uruguayan opponent.
Rodrigues suffered three knockdowns before his corner threw in the towel in the fourth round knockout.
Vice President Mahama who was attending the very first fight in his life said he was impressed by the performance of Bukom Banku.
He said too much lip service had been paid to diversifying the country’s sport and that it was time to give boxing the needed support and he will lend his personal support.
Bukom Banku said despite the knockout victory, his opponent was good.
He said the fight went according to his pre-match plans.
