The biggest question on the lips of many after the launch of the maiden Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG) Awards is, who win be crowned the country’s Most Popular Entertainer?
The awards is the brain child of FDD Communications Consult and it is a cross-discipline honours that would ensure that professionals in the various fields of music, film, television, theatre, football, boxing, comedy, radio and television are commended for their services to the people of Ghana in the year 2010.
The launch and unveiling of awardees was held at a ceremony at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra Friday.
Speaking at the event, Francis Doku, a renowned journalist and the executive secretary of the awards, said the awards will be the 'big brother' of the industry and that it will be an honour bestowed on entertainers who were the best in the industry over the year.
He said the selection was done by a college of entertainment crtics whilst the public votes for the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana.
These are the awardees:
Most Entertaining Football Personality of the year
Asamoah Gyan
Most Entertaining Boxing Personality of the year
Joseph Agbeko
Most Entertaining Film Acting Personality of the year
Kofi Adu aka Agya Koo
Most Entertaining Stage Acting Personality of the year
Andrew Adotey
Most Entertaining Comedy Personality of the year
Funny Face
Most Entertaining Music Personality of the year
Amakye Dede
Most Entertaining Radio Broadcast Personality of the year
Fifi Banson – Accra/Tema
Kwami Adinkra – Kumasi
Samuel Hayford – Takoradi
Most Entertaining Broadcast Personality of the year
Nana Aba Anamoah
Other awards to awarded include, Lifetime Achievement Honour and Entertainment Support Institutions Honour.
The public will vote for the Most Popular Entertainer and that personality will be awarded at an awards event later this year.
