Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) announced on Monday that there would be disruption of power supply to consumers in Accra on specific days from February 5 to March 12.
This is to enable the Company to add a new transmission line to the existing three transmission lines serving Accra and its environs from Tema.
A statement signed by Albert Kwesi Quainoo, Head of Public Relations of GRIDCo, said the company would be shedding an average of 70MW between 06:00 and 18:00 GMT for 25 days during the period to provide a safe working space for a contractor to string a fourth transmission line from Tema to Accra.
It said GRIDCo would work with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to manage load during the six-week period to ensure the stability and security of the national grid and to prevent the available transmission lines from overloading during the outage period.
The statement said the areas that would experience the load shedding on specified days would be published in the national dailies before and during the period.
It added that vans of the Information Services Department would also be used in the communities to educate the public on the load shedding programme.
GRIDCo said it had obtained US$1.5 million to string the fourth transmission line from the main switchyard in Tema into the Achimota substation to increase power transfer and reliability to the city of Accra and beyond.
"GRIDCo finds it very important to carry out the works during this period to improve service delivery to its customers", it said.Source: GNA
