The Police Administration has lifted a ban it imposed some days ago on truck drivers using the country’s road networks during the evening.
The ban followed recent fatal accidents on the country’s roads some of which have been blamed on huge trucks.
But some stakeholders kicked against the ban and accused police administration of not doing enough consultation before imposing the ban.
Some of the stakeholders argued the ban is likely to be ineffective because majority of accidents occur during the day than at night.
The ban would rather impose a lot more pressure on road users during the day, they contended.
The criticisms appeared to have resulted in the change in policy by the police administration.
Director of Police Public Relations Superintendent Kwesi Ofori told Joy News the IGP upon further consideration has lifted the ban on the use of roads by truck drivers from 6pm.
He said the administration has rather imposed stringent measures to ensure road traffic regulations are respected by drivers.
He would not admit that the criticisms led to the change in policy by the police but said the administration is not static but a dynamic one.
He called for attitudinal change and appealed to drivers to take proper measures to ensure safety on the country’s roads and to value the lives of passengers.
