An aide to the Vice-President, John Abu Jinapor says Vice-President John Dramani Mahama backs the decision taken by the Ghana Police Service to lift the ban imposed on articulated trucks using the country's road networks after 6 pm. Mr Jinapor, who spoke to Joy News, said the Vice-President was confident about the decision taken by the police. “It is [within their means] to decide if they want to reverse it based on whatever peculiar situations that are there. All government does is to give the police administration and other allied agencies the needed support,” he said. “And so if in their view they think that it should be suspended in the interim or suspended all together, fair enough. But if after proper consultation, if after proper education, they believe that it is in the interest of Ghanaians and we [have to] embrace it, why not?” he rhetorically asked. The police banned articulated trucks from plying the roads in the country after 6pm on Monday. Hours after the ban, Vice-President Mahama welcomed the decision, hinting that it would help reduce accidents. The ban was however lifted on Wednesday. Story by Fidel Amoah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
