The Gomoa West District Assembly last year gave scholarships to 86 needy but brilliant students to continue their education at the Secondary, vocational and tertiary levels.
Mr Theophilous Adu-Mensah, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, told journalists that this year 136 students would benefit that the District Assembly established to improve education in the area.
He said this in reaction to an appeal for assistance by the management and Board of Governors of Gomoa Adaa Vocational Training Institute.
Mr Adu-Mensah said the scheme was to assist students whose parents’ financial backgrounds were not sound to continue their education.
He said last year 17 students from Adaa vocational Institute benefited from the fund and this year another batch of students would enjoy the scheme.
Mr Adu-Mensah said the assembly had released 100 bags of cement to Gomoa Adaa Vocational Institute to complete the abandoned bungalows to accommodate masters.
The assembly would also give boards to the Carpentry Department of the school to prepare chairs and tables for their use instead of the assembly buying them.
Nana Barimah Okra Tawiah V, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute, said there was no accommodation for the masters, adding that they were staying in the same apartment with the students.
Nana Okra Tawiah, who is also Chief of Gomoa Sampa, appealed to citizens of Gomoa at home and abroad to assist the school since the Institute was training Junior High School leavers to acquire skills and vocations.
Mr Plato Kweku Nsowa, Manager of the Institute, said the institute lacks infrastructure compelling about 202 students to use one classroom.
