The National Highway Patrol Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested three men for possessing a Mark III weapon believed to belong to the Ghana Armed Forces. The suspects, who claimed they had been sent by someone to sell the gun on his behalf, are Charles Nickson, Duke Blackson and Fiifi Dugan. According to the Commander of the unit, Superintendent of Police Mr Obed Dzikunu, at about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011, personnel of the unit detailed to patrol the Accra-Cape Coast highway intercepted a Chevrolet saloon car, with registration number GN 434 Z, at Fetteh Kakraba, near Awutu. He said the car was being driven by Charles Nickson, who was accompanied by Duke Blackson. He said when the policemen requested that the boot of the vehicle be opened for routine inspection, the two claimed it had been locked. He said the policemen insisted and when the boot was eventually opened, a search revealed the weapon concealed in a sack. Mr Dzikunu said after their arrest, the two occupants mentioned Fiifi Dugan as the one who had given them the gun to be sold. He said the police managed to lure Fiifi to the Awutu Police Station, where he was arrested, and following interrogation he claimed ownership of the weapon. He is yet to disclose how he came by it. Mr Dzikunu said the three suspects were currently assisting the police in their investigations, after which they would be arraigned. Source: Daily Graphic
