Chiefs in the Upper West region are unhappy about the composition of the board of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA). They say the current nine-member board, chaired by Stanbic bank MD, Alhassan Andani, is not representative and are asking that the number be increased to 11 to include two traditional rulers in the region. The vice president of the regional house of chiefs, Naa Dr. Puoree Chiiri raised the concern at a workshop organized by the Environmental Protection Agency for traditional rulers in the region. He argued that as traditional leaders responsible for overseeing development in their jurisdictions, it was important for them to play a central role in the SADA initiative. Naa Chiiri, who is also the Nandom Naa, said the chiefs in the region were not against the appointment of a retired educationist from the region to the board – an apparent attempt to placate them – but maintained she could not adequately represent the views of the chiefs.
