43 refugees at the Buduburam camp are to be prosecuted for the violent conduct which led to the death of one of the residents during the weekend.Police say the suspects will be charged with rioting and conspiracy to commit crime.The refugees on Sunday attempted to inaugurate a welfare council contrary to an arrangement with the Refugee Board- the body instituted by the Ghana government to oversee the activities of the refugees.The police’s attempt to stop the inauguration turned violent leading to the death of a Ghanaian resident.The refugees have accused the police for needlessly opening fire on them.They have also accused the Refugee Board and the UNHCR of attempting to impose leaders on them.They say they feel insecure and would love to be repatriated to their countries.“Ghana is not safe because police is there to protect life and property but if they can come in and shoot us and kill us we are not protected in this place any longer," Victoria Munat one of the refugees said.But the police, as well as the UNHCR and the Refugee Board have all dismissed the allegations by the refugees.Coporal Raymond Asaba, Head of Police Public Relations in the Central Region said the refugees failed to comply with the terms of agreement with the Refugee Board on appointing new leaders for the camp.He dismissed allegations that the Police brutalised them, adding, the refugees did not use the appropriate means to resolve their grievances however legitimate those grievances were.He said the 43 suspects are in police custody and will be hauled before court on Tuesday morning.Joy News has learnt that calm has returned to the Buduburam camp with the residents going about their normal activities.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
