A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Yaw Sekyi, a 25-year-old resident of Dompim near Tarkwa, to 15 years' imprisonment in hard labour for having sexual intercourse with his nine-year-old daughter.
The accused person pleaded guilty to the charges of incest and defilement. The court presided over by Nana Obeng Diawuo convicted the accused on his own plea and slapped him with a 15-year jail term.
Giving the facts of the case to DAILY GUIDE in an interview, Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, noted that the nine-year-old girl stayed with her mother at Nsuaem, also near Tarkwa.
She said during the yule-tide last year, Sekyi asked the girl's mother to allow the little girl to visit him at Dompim so that she could spend the holidays there.
According to the police PRO, while the victim was staying with her father at Dompim, he had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions.
Chief Inspector Adiku said on January 20, 2011, the daughter returned to Nsuaem after the Christmas holidays with the father and the mother detected that there was a change in the way the little girl walked.
Suspecting that somebody might have raped the daughter, the mother reported the case to the police, who gave her a medical form to send her daughter to the hospital.
The medical doctor's report confirmed that someone had for sometime had sexual intercourse with the girl, and when the mother queried the little girl, she mentioned her father as the one who had sex with her during her stay with him.
The 25-year-old man was arrested on February 6, 2011 and after investigations, he was charged with the offences and put before the Tarkwa Circuit Court.
After series of hearings, the court finally found the father guilty on his own plea and accordingly slapped him with a 15-year jail term.
