A renowned labour consultant Mr. Austin Gamey has heavily criticized politicians over what he said is their inability to listen and use language skills effectively. Mr. Gamey who is a politician himself, stated that “the fact that one can read does not mean he is educated”. Mr. Gamey who represented the North Tongu Constituency in Parliament until the year 2000, was also Employment and Social Welfare Minister during the NDC administration under President Jerry Rawlings. Obviously unhappy with the use of foul words on the airwaves by politicians and their followers, Mr. Gamey said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday that politicians should be schooled on how to properly use language and language skills effectively. Recent clash between Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong and Alhaji Bature on Asempa Fm over the weekend has raised worries over the apparent heating of the political terrain, even though elections are about two years away. President Atta Mills in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament last Thursday condemned "war mongers" and those beating "war drums" and stressed on the need to coexist for national development. Mr. Gamey told host of Dwaso Nsem, Adakabre Frimpong Manso that politicians must know they owe allegiance to the public who elected them to their positions, and should therefore refrain from the use of language that has the potential to foment trouble. “Politicians are not above learning, they must continue to learn, they really need it and must be told as such. "The political landscape is unnecessarily heating up while campaign has not been officially declared”, the labour expert noted sounding disturbed. In a related development, National Organiser of the NPP Alhaji Moctar Bamba says Nana Akufo-Addo did not mean to foment trouble when he made the “all die be die” comment at Koforidua. Alhaji Bamba said the NPP and its followers believe in the rule of law and democracy and will not do anything to flout the law. He said Nana Addo’s statement was to send a signal to the government that they will no longer sit and watch while their followers are physically attacked, maimed or killed without any action from authorities concerned.
