An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced a National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) staff to a fine of GH¢6,000 for stealing. The Court presided over by Mrs Faustina Mary Addington said Emmanuel Sackey, who is a supervisor with Zoomlion, would in default serve a four-month jail term. In addition, he is to sign a bond to be of good behaviour. Sackey faced two counts of forging documents and two counts of stealing GH¢90. He pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing and pleaded not guilty to two counts of forging documents, and has been admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢40,000 with two sureties to reappear on March 22. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector F. M. Iddrisu said the complainants in the case were Lamisi Hemes and Isaac Andoh, who worked under Sackey. Chief Inspector Iddrisu said in February 2010, Sackey stole cheque books of the complainants and in August 2010 cashed GH¢45.00 each from two of them without their knowledge. The prosecutor said the complainants later noticed that someone had cashed money from their accounts without their knowledge. The complainants reported the case to the NYEP and investigations revealed that the convict was the culprit. Chief Inspector Iddrisu said during investigations it came to light that Sackey forged receipts and documents of AMA and defrauded several people who had gone to the Okaikoi North Sub-Metro District Area for their business operating permits.
