Former Joy FM Super Morning Show host, Komla Dumor, says he is ecstatic about his new role as an anchor for BBC’s World News television prime time breakfast show while hinting that he is looking forward to the challenge.Speaking on Joy FM’s Drive Time in an exclusive interview, Mr Dumor attributed his rising success to hard work, commitment and determination.According to him, he spends six hours in reading and studying the briefs of “the day team” in order to get himself ready for the day.“I come in to work at 09:00 pm; that’s when most folks are closing or have closed for the day...I’m not going to be on air until 03:00 am. So I have up to six hours of reading and preparation and studying the briefs that have been prepared by what we call 'the day team'. That’s the team that works throughout the day looking for the interviews,” he said.Mr Dumuor also shed some light on his initial times at Joy FM.According to him, all was not rosy as many would like it to seem, pointing out moments when he struggled to cope with the journalism profession and an embarrassing moment he experienced at the University of Ghana, Legon.“People know my story but they only know a small part of the story. They don’t know the beginnings and how humble those beginnings are [such as] walking the streets of Adabraka-Odawna without any sense of plan or guidance.“There was a time myself and Bernard Gbagbey fell in a gutter at Achimota and when I got out of the gutter I said to myself, what kind of job is this. And at the moment we fell into the gutter, some of the Volta girls (Volta Hall, University of Ghana) were passing by and were laughing, I mean they were really, really laughing ,” he recalled.He therefore implored listeners and the general public never to give up in life but to remain resilient in the pursuit of one’s dreams.Komla Dumor will be taking over from former host, Jonathan Charles as a new presenter of the prime time morning television news for the UK domestic and global audience.Despite this new role, the seasoned Ghanaian journalist stated that he would continue to carry out his duties on the BBC’s radio programme, the World Today when he is not on television.Story by Fidel Amoah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
