The Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, has joined calls on the media to shift focus from politics, saying it is detrimental. Admittedly, he said Ghana's airwaves have been choked with lies and sensationalised stories, including his own media outfits, Oman FM and Net2 TV, compelling listeners to assimilate and "unfortunately" believe them. "I am sorry, it's terrible and people blatantly lie everyday and people listen to them," the maverick politician told Citi FM. "It looks as if every blessed day any radio station which does not talk about politics would also not make money. And I think if we begin to move away from it the public will now accept that, yes, enough of politics, now let us tackle the issue." Mr Kennedy Agyapong said if the politisation on radio continues unabated, it will leave the country divided. "Everybody should change the way we address issues in this country, it's too political and it's sharply dividing the country, which is not healthy for us, there are more important issues, economic, social, health, education." The Acting Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Anna Bossman who has been at the forefront asking the media to tone down on the political slant reiterated that the "cacophony" in the media will divide the nation. "We make a lot of noise of issues that are not really very important to us as human beings." She conceded that politics is important, but, "what is more important is the welfare of people and how the people feel". She said "when you are sick, you are not going to be thinking about what is CPP doing or what is the NDC doing; you are going to think about how the hospitals are going to help me, how I am going to get my drugs."
