The Chairman of the Finance Committee of parliament, James Avedzi, has downplayed concerns raised about the petroleum revenue management bill passed last week.
MP for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa, PC Appiah Ofori, had contended that the bill was incomplete because the house ignored a very important clause he proposed which would prevent smuggling of the oil.
He has consequently petitioned President Mills not to assent to the bill.
But his colleague MP, James Avedzi, who worked with the committee that discussed the bill insists the particular clause is not related to the current bill.
James Avedzi wants Mr. Appiah Ofori to rather present his proposed amendment under the Exploration and Production Bill.
“We have done over 300 amendments to this bill so nobody can say we did a poor job. What Hon. PC Appiah was talking about is something that cannot be accommodated in the Petroleum Revenue management. It is something that we felt can be accommodated in the Exploration and Production Bill,” he explained.
He said it is unfortunate that PC Appiah Ofori has taken this stance of campaigning against the bill when there are other options available to him.
