The Director-General in charge of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Mr John Kudalor, has called on the media to be circumspect in the reportage of cases concerning the police.
He said very often, in their haste to go public with their stories, the media came out with half truths which later created problem for the police in particular and members of the public in general.
Speaking at the annual WASSA of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Mr Kudalor commended the officers and men of the command for their hard work and dedication which had led to the arrest of a number of notorious criminals and the retrieval of stolen or snatched vehicles.
He said policing was not an employment but a very challenging calling because the lives of policemen were always on the line.
He assured the officers and men of the Police Administration's commitment to support them to enable them to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.
Mr Kudalor warned that the image-cleansing exercise embarked upon by the Police Administration was still ongoing and that anyone who was found to have done anything to tarnish the hard-won reputation of the police would be dealt with.
For his part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Ashietey Armah, said peace was very crucial to the development of any nation and that was why "we should not do anything to jeopardise the peace in the country".
He commended the Police Administration for putting in place measures to ensure that the country enjoyed peace at all times.
The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, said the regional command had chalked up a number of successes in its quest to reduce armed robbery and other social vices to the barest minimum.
She said despite the limited resources available to it, the command was able to arrest a number of wanted criminals who had been on the police wanted list for several years.
She said a notorious car snatcher, Aglogo and his gang were busted, and 21 stolen vehicles retrieved from them, adding that they were currently serving jail sentences.
