The Greater Accra Regional NPP Chairman, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey has debunked the assertion that the Sege Constituency is a no go area for the NPP, hence their decision not to file for Parliamentary nomination in the constituency.
Mr. Ashittey admitted that although Sege is not a stronghold for the NPP, they are determined to work hard to make great impact in the next elections.
He stressed that the decision by the NPP leadership to ignore the Sege seat, could amount to declaration of defeat in advance which to him, will not augur well for the party.
Out of the 27 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, the NPP did not open nominations in two constituencies - Obom-Domeabra and Sege - for the April 30, 2011 party primaries, due to financial constraints.
The party is charging GH¢16,000 as the filing fee, which has generated a lot of controversy with some people accusing the party's leadership of selling the parliamentary seats to the highest bidder.
In the case of the Sege and Obom-Domeabra constituencies, Mr. Ashitey explained that the people were willing to pay the GH¢16,000 filing fee in installment but the party hierarchy rejected their plea.
