The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President Mills to remove Mr. Kwabena Acheampong from the position of Deputy Minister of State.
The party said the Deputy Interior Minister’s “insulting behavior, rudeness and arrogance does not befit the high position of Deputy Minister and is a disgrace to governance in our country.”
In a statement issued in Accra Monday, and signed by the NPP’s Communication Director, Nana Akomea, the party said in the run-up to the 2008 elections, Mr. Acheampong’s insulting behavior as a political activist directly led to his removal as a lecturer in Communication Studies at The African University College of Communications.
“Mr. Acheampong in recent times has insulted and denigrated residents of Kumasi and the countryside, by his “infamous” “cocoase kurasenii” outburst,” the statement noted.
It said just last week, without provocation, he described the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, as an untidy person who is a fruitcake (crazy).
“Mr. Acheampong’s outburst and insults directly makes nonsense of President Mills’ constant admonition against the politics of insults.
“It also threatens to throw political discourse in our country into free for all denigrations and insults,” the statement said.
The statement said “The NPP believes our political discourse and governance should be spared the indecency that the likes of Mr. Acheampong represent.”
By relieving Mr. Acheampong of his post as Deputy Minister, the NPP said the president will be fostering decency in the body politic.
