Six persons were on Tuesday sentenced to 40 years' imprisonment each by a High Court in Accra on charges of conspiracy and robbery. Issaka Abubakar and Hamza Shaibu, both traders, Taju Adamu, a driver's mate, Majid Adamu and Charles Ametor, both drivers, were said to have robbed a house at gun point at Pokuase in Accra. Shaibu, Adamu, Seidu and Ali who were not satisfied with the booties obtained from the household also took turns to rape a lady in the house at gun point. The six accused persons denied the offence but the court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Quist, after their trial, found them guilty and convicted them accordingly. According to the court Shaibu, Adamu, Seidu and Ali confessed to the crime and narrated to the court how they met, conspired and carried out the robbery and shared their booty. The facts presented by Mr Asiamah Sampong, Principal State Attorney, were that at about 2200 hours on March 11, 2007, the convicts boarded a taxi with an unknown registration number which they had snatched from a driver during their robbery expedition. The prosecutor said Hamza, who lived at Pokuase and knew the first complainant, led his accomplices there and broke into the house with a bar, took the watchman hostage, tied his hands at his back and mounted guard on him. The convicts and three others now at large entered the house, broke the kitchen door with cement blocks and gained access to the living room. The prosecutor said the convicts also tied the occupants, ransacked the living room and took away, 15 assorted mobile phones, three DVD players, unspecified local and foreign money and dresses. A month after the incident, the convicts were arrested by the Police during a different robbery case.Source: GNA
