President John Evans Atta Mills has arrived in Wa from Bolgatanga to begin a two-day official visit to the Upper West Region.
The President will inspect ongoing development projects and also cut-sod for the commencement of some projects during the visit.
He was met at Kperisi, five kilometres away from Wa by enthusiastic and massive party supporters, who turned out to welcome him and his entourage to Wa amidst drumming and jubilation.
Some of the supporters rode on motorbikes and others in vehicles. Two camels brought in by Fulani herdsmen, led the convoy through the principal streets to the residency.
Onlookers thronged the streets to catch glimpses of President Mills as his convoy drove pass, bringing business activities at the main lorry park to a halt.
At the residency, President Mills addressed the teeming supporters, calling on them to remain united and focused to win power in the 2012 elections.
“I am happy you are together” he said, and gave the assurance that his administration would never let them down.
During the visit, President Mills will call on the Chief Imam, Yerinaa (Chief of Moslems) and Tendambas (Landlords) of Wa on Monday morning before going to hold a meeting with chiefs at the Regional House of Chiefs to kick start his tour of the Region.
He will later in the day, cut sod for the commencement of works on the construction of an Administrative and Library Complex for the Wa Campus of the University for the Development Studies (UDS).
President Mills will then proceed to Nadowli District where he will commission an emergency six-unit classroom block for Queen of Peace Senior High School at Nadowli.
He will continue to Jirapa District to commission and to inspect projects at Saint Francis Girls Senior High School at Jirapa and leave for Lawra District to commission the Health Assistants Training School at Lawra.
President Mills will later inspect ongoing works on the Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile road and return to Wa to meet with the NDC party executives and opinion leaders to end his first day tour.
On the second day, President Mills will pay a courtesy call on the Catholic Bishop of Wa, commission electricity project at Sagu, perform ground breaking for the construction of the Wa-Hain Road at
Naro in the Nadowli District and cut sod for construction of a Polyclinic at Hain in the Jirapa District.
President Mills will proceed to the Sissala West District where he will inspect projects at the Gwollu Senior High School and leave for Tumu in the East Sissala District to commission some projects and
a dinning hall project at the Tumu Secondary/Technical School.
He will inspect the Tumu town roads and the Divisional Police Station at Tumu and leave for Funsi in the Wa East District to inspect projects at the Funsi Senior High School and as well commission the
small town water supply and electricity projects at Funsi.
President Mills will launch the Regional Rural Electrification Project also at Funsi before returning to Wa to end his official tour of the region.
