The editor of the Insight newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jnr has highlighted the need to ensure that the real murderers of the Ya Na are hunted and punished according to the rule of law.Failure to do so would not create good impression about the state and its apparatus, thereby eroding the people’s confidence in state institutions, he said.The nation has witnessed some disturbances in Tamale following the acquittal and discharge of 15 suspected killers of the overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Yakubu Andani II by the Fast Track High Court in Accra.However, the President, John Evans Atta Mills, has expressed worry over the issue and promised the state will appeal against the ruling.Mr Kwesi Pratt, speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Friday, stated that there have been many unresolved murders in Ghana’s history, including the 246 people who vanished during the PNDC era.“…so we are piling unsolved murders and disappearances upon unsolved murders and disappearances” because the state has failed to unravel those behind such acts, he said, warning that such incidences will have a negative impact on the country’s democracy.He therefore charged the government to do all it could to ensure that justice prevails, and called on the rioting youths to remain calm.Mr Pratt also called on the state to use its powers to compel all those who claim to have evidence that could help in finding the perpetrators of the crime to produce them.Listen to Kwesi Pratt in the attached audio for more Story by Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
