Two persons, a carpenter and a chainsaw operator, have been sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment in hard labour each by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Emmanuel Amo-Yartey. They were convicted for stealing two AK 47 assault rifles from a police station. Bismark Akwasi Brobbey, 51 and Yahaya Lamtey, 45, a carpenter and a chainsaw operator respectively, pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them. According to the prosecutor, Anita Rama Denis Wase, an Assistant State Attorney, on the dawn of January 7, 2009, the convicts sneaked into the charge office of the Ejura Police Station during a black out and stole two AK 47 rifles. The other items stolen were 88 rounds of ammunitions, a pair of military trousers and a cap. The prosecutor told the court that after the operation, the convicts gave the stolen firearms to one Kwame Danso in the Brong Ahafo Region to sell but was unsuccessful. As a result, the convicts proceeded to Garinkuka in the Northern Region, where they managed to sell one of the rifles to one Nkobene Keikor for three cows. The other rifle was also sold to one Oboye for GH¢1,200.00 but the military attire was given to one Kojo Mensah, a friend of the convicts, to take care of. The prosecutor stated that during investigations, Bismark Akwasi Brobbey and one Jagri Aziz led the complainant, Ejura Police, to Garinkuka to retrieve the AK 47 rifles.
