Suspected thieves broke into the cash office of the Kwabenya District of the Electricity Company of Ghana on Wednesday night and made away with at least one computer containing valuable financial information.
The suspected thieves broke one of the doors of the cash office which is located in a container situated adjacent to the ECG’s newly commissioned building at the Atomic roundabout at Dome-Kwabenya.
Top management members of the ECG in Kwabenya earlier this year moved into the building but left staff at the cash office to operate from the container, with the reason that their systems were yet to be installed.
District Manager Dominic Afeti declined to speak to Adom News when contacted saying he was in a meeting.
Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department at the Atomic Divisional Police Command visited the scene Thursday morning to assess the situation to begin investigations.
As at 11 am when Adom News last checked, business was yet to resume as staff sat outside waiting for officials from the CID Headquarters to arrive at the crime scene.
Adom News has learnt a similar incident occurred on the same premises about two years ago, where the thieves took away the safe containing an unspecified amount of money being bills paid by customers.
Meanwhile the security officer on duty who was not at post at the time of the incident, is assisting the police with investigations.
The Accra East Region, under which the Kwabenya District operates, is yet to make any pronouncements on the incident.
