A policeman and two others, who attempted to defraud a pastor of GH¢7,000 in their bid to blackmail him on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Lance-Corporal Owusu Afriyie, the Policeman, Michael Del-Ross, a pastor and Husuvi Kwaku, an electrician, are being held for conspiracy. Additionally Afriyie has been charged with attempt to commit crime by defrauding by false pretences. Afriyie and Husuvi have pleaded not guilty and have been admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with three sureties each. One of the sureties is to be a public servant earning not less than GH¢10,000 annually. They are to reappear on April 28. Pastor Del-Ross was absent because he is on admission at the Police Hospital. Chief Inspector Adamu M. Awal, told the court that on April 1, the complainant, Prophet Isaac Aseidu, founder and leader of Leading Prayer and Prophetic Church at Haatso in Accra, reported to the Police that a man claiming to be a senior police officer had called him claiming he had information about him. The prosecution said the man, who claimed to be Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Asiedu of the Regional Police Headquarters, called him with phone number 0268586117 and said he had information that he (complainant) had slept with five girls who were members of his church. Chief Insp. Awal said the said DSP Aseidu asked the pastor to give him GH¢7,000 else he would go public with the story. The said DSP Aseidu was lured to Oman FM where he was supposed to collect the money. Lance Corporal Asiedu arrived at Oman FM claiming to be DSP Aseidu and he was arrested by the Police. During investigations it came to light that Afriyie was serving as a Police officer attached to the National Security. During a search on Afriyie a Nokia phone with the number 026586117 was found on him. On April 4, the Police at Dome Pillar Two arrested Husuvi and Del-Ross. They admitted they initiated the plan and communicated with Afriyie to execute it.Source: GNA
