A magistrate court at Tuobodom in Techiman Municipality in Brong-Ahafo Region has convicted a 22 year old domestic worker to 12 months imprisonment in-hard-labour for stealing.
Asana Sadia pleaded not guilty but later changed her plea to guilty during prosecution.
She pleaded with the court to show leniency on her as she was an ex-convict who had served six months imprisonment last year for a similar offence.
Inspector Clement Amoah told the court presided by Mr. Issah Abdul-Wahab that Sadia who was a maid-servant to one Mr. Amponsah Mohammed and his wife at New Sansama, a suburb of Techiman, but left the job.
He said on March 17, this year, after the complainants had left for work, Sadia took advantage and broke into their room and packed some of their belongings into a waiting taxi.
The items included sets of Pyrex bowls, plastic bowls, assorted basins, cooking utensils, pairs of footwear, food flasks and other valuable items all valued at GHC1, 349.
Prosecution said a prospective witness suspected the accused as she packed the items so confronted the driver and asked him not to convey the items.
Inspector Amoah said Sadia on realizing the danger ahead took to her heels but was arrested by some residents.
In her cautioned statement to the police, Sadia admitted stealing the items and pleaded with the court to pardon her.
Sentencing her, the magistrate remarked that Sadia had really shown she was a friend to the court, having been convicted last year for a similar stealing case.
Mr. Wahab expressed the hope that the sentence of 12 months would enable her to reform.
He warned that the court would not deal leniently with such criminals who did not want to use their energies for economic gains but would choose to steal.
The magistrate ordered that the retrieved items be handed over to the couple.
