The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Andoh Koffie, on Saturday, urged the people of Winneba to bury their differences and unite towards the development of the area. DCOP Koffie made the appeal at a Reconciliation Conference of the Tuafo No. One Asafo Company of Winneba, whose ranks have been divided for the past five years. The reconciliation conference was initiated by the Tufohene of the Effutu State, Nana Otubua Siripi II, who has overall responsibility of the Asafo Companies, in collaboration with the two Asafo Companies and some opinion leaders and elders of Winneba. The Asafo companies are Tuafo No.1 and Dentsefo No. 2. DCOP Koffie said his out-fit would not tolerate any group of people who would try to undermine the peace in the town and also create disunity among the people. "The police are going to deal drastically with chieftaincy detractors and contractors who always create trouble in the region, especially in Winneba," he warned. He, therefore, advised the people to ensure that they lived in peace as one people to help in the development of the town. The Tufuhene, for his part, said that the "unification process" is a prelude to the celebration of the 2011 Aboakyer Festival and a test of the nobility and honesty of the Asafo Companies. The Asafo companies play a major role in the celebration of the deer hunting contest festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional Area. He advised the people to refrain from all negative issues and behaviours which could destabilise reconciliation. "Let us maintain this reconciliation pact in order to take proper stock of our assets and to render proper account of our stewardship to the unborn generations tomorrow and our ancestors now," he said. The Tufuhene said the present generation "will do the Effutu State a great disservice if we do not refrain from all negative acts, which are impediments to our stride for peace". Nana Siripi appealed to the Asafo Companies to disassociate themselves from the chieftaincy conflict, saying that Asafo companies should be seen as a reformed militia poised for peace and accelerated development in any town. The Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, in message read for him by Mr Kofi Kussachin, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, pledged the support of the assembly towards the sustainability unification of the Tuafo No. 1 Asafo Company.
