Ekumfi Adumafo, a fishing community in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, on Friday, became the scene of mourning when a 35-year-old fisherman, Kweku Adanu, killed his 5-year-old daughter, Esi Nyame, and dumped her body in the sea.
Kweku Adanu, who has since admitted to committing the offence, is now in police custody as the body of Nyame has been retrieved and deposited at the Central Regional Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Briefing Daily Guide on Sunday, the Mfantseman Municipal Police Commander, Emmanuel Odonkor, said his outfit received a report on Friday that Adanu had killed her daughter, a situation which led to his arrest.
Supt. Odonkor said the suspect had had a problem with the wife for some time now and went to her to plead for forgiveness and asked her to hand over Nyame to him.
The wife, who did not have any bad intention about him, gave the child to him. He later came back to inform the family that the daughter was missing.
The police officer said indications were that he killed the child and dumped her in the sea.
Police are yet to ascertain the details of what might have motivated Adanu to kill his child.
