President John Evans Atta Mills has reiterated his father-for-all pledge as he assured the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that his government would ensure nobody or region is discriminated against under his leadership. Touted as the Asomdwehene - King of Peace -, President Mills declared, when he was sworn in as the president of Ghana, on January 7, 2009 that he would be a father for all to Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliation. He also said development projects would be distributed equitably. But two years into his administration, the president has been accused by the opposition of presiding over selective justice and showing preference to his party supporters to the neglect of others, thus failing on his father for all promise. However, when President Mills met Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Monday, at the Manhyia Palace as part of his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, he said he has not reneged on that promise. Joy FM’s presidential affairs correspondent, Seth Kwame Boateng said, the president reassured that he would make sure that each region gets its fair share of the national cake. The Asantehene who spoke through the Mamponghene promised the palace’s unflinching support for the president to succeed in his administration. The rest of the meeting was however held behind closed-door. Meanwhile, Kwame Boateng said Prof. Mills was given a rousing welcome by a huge crowd when he arrived in Kumasi, virtually bringing activities there at a standstill. Addressing a crowd at his arrival at the Kumasi Airport, President Mills said he would always strive for peace at all cause for the country. “This is the only country that we have, and without peace, there can be no development. I will always strive for peace irrespective of the circumstances, because I owe it to the people of Ghana to make sure that there is peace. “There should be no discrimination, we are all Ghanaians, we are all the creatures of the almighty God.” He acknowledged that in the course of his government, there are bound to be challenges but assured that with determination, courage and sense of purpose “we shall always overcome all the challenges”. The president was accompanied on the tour by some ministers of state and Members of Parliament. Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
