Fresh modules being designed under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) would focus on the development of employable skills for beneficiaries. Mr Kwesi Hollison, Deputy NYEP Coordinator in charge of Monitoring and Evaluation, disclosed this to Ghana News Agency when a team from the NYEP national directorate met beneficiaries under the Prisons Support module at the Ho Prisons on Thursday. He stressed that beneficiaries would be trained to set up their own economic entities and employ others rather than be employed. Mr Hollison said the NYEP was progressively tackling the problem of late payment of allowances to the beneficiaries. He said delay in the payment of the allowances was caused by late receipt of cash advanced by support agencies to the NYEP. The Prison Support Assistants mounted a guard of honour and later met the NYEP briefly before going into close door discussions. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, reminded the beneficiaries that by their name, Support Assistants, they were not Prison Officers and it would be criminal for any of them to present himself or herself as an officer of the Prisons.
