The public must have confidence in the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and approach it anytime with their problems, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Elizabeth Dassa, National Coordinator of DOVVSU, has urged.
She said the Unit has well-trained investigators and professionals, who have the experience in handling domestic violence and related cases, and therefore, people should feel free to report their cases to the Unit.
ACP Dassa made the call on Tuesday in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Agbanyo, the Upper East Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service in Bolgatanga.
The statement said ACP Dassa made the call when she addressed a stakeholders meeting in Bolgatanga.
She reiterated the commitment of the Unit to support investigations to ensure that violent related cases were reduced in the region.
To achieve this, she indicated that the Police Service was doing its best to adequately resource the Unit to enable it to improve its services.
She thanked stakeholders, especially Action Aid Ghana for supporting DOVVSU with furniture, humanitarian assistance and helping it to organize workshops.
The stakeholders including the Department of Women, Action Aid Ghana, Department of Social Welfare and the Centre for Sustainable Development Initiative (CENSUDI), proposed to assist the Unit to carry out educational campaigns in schools on issues of domestic violence.
Madam Margarete Mary an official of CENDUSI proposed the formation of anti-violence based teams in schools and in communities to help to combat domestic violence in the Region.
